Smilo.ai wins Patients Choice award

Australian digital health company Smilo.ai has won the Outstanding Digital Health Service Award at the 2026 Patients Choice Awards for its AI-powered oral health screening technology.

The platform is designed to support screening and early detection of oral health issues in aged care and disability services, shifting care towards a more preventive model.

Smilo.ai founder and CEO Dr Padmar Gadiyar received the award, which was sponsored by Telstra Health.

Telstra Health chief health and risk officer Dr Monica Trujillo, who served on the judging panel, said the strongest entries focused on addressing gaps in the patient experience.

“Many of the strongest submissions identified known gaps in the patient experience and demonstrated how technology can help bridge them,” Dr Trujillo said.

“What stood out throughout the judging process was the focus on solving real challenges experienced by patients and clinicians. The strongest submissions demonstrated how technology can remove barriers, connect information and services, and support better experiences and outcomes.”

The Patients Choice Awards are presented by Patients Australia and recognise individuals, teams and organisations for their contribution to improving patient experiences and health outcomes.
