The National Reconstruction Fund Corporation says Harrison.ai plans to remain based in Australia following a restructure that resulted in Australian job losses as the health AI company expands its operations in the US.
The NRFC invested $32 million in Harrison.ai in January 2025, with the investment intended to support further development of its radiology and pathology diagnostic technology and help keep the company’s operations based in Sydney.
As reported by the ABC this week, Harrison.ai has since made a number of Australian staff redundant while expanding in the US, including through its AI-enabled teleradiology business Frontier Radiology.
In a statement provided to Pulse+IT, an NRFC spokesperson said Harrison.ai remained based in Australia and had no plans to relocate.
“Harrison.ai is based in Australia and plans to remain based in Australia. The company’s corporate headquarters are in Sydney, and its CEO and leadership team are based in Australia,” the spokesperson said.
“The company has no plans to relocate outside of Australia.”
The NRFC said Harrison.ai had reached a point where it was shifting its focus from product development towards commercialising and embedding its technology internationally.
“The mix of skills and roles needed for this phase are different, and it is not uncommon for companies at this stage in their life cycle to deploy resources in the markets they aim to sell into,” the spokesperson said.
“The model being pursued by Harrison.ai in the United States is typical of a broader industry shift towards providing AI tools and software as a service.”
The NRFC said it remained confident in Harrison.ai’s long-term future and its commitment to scaling internationally while remaining based in Australia.
‘Deliberate and Proactive’
Meanwhile, Harrison.ai told Pulse+IT the restructure undertaken earlier this year was a “deliberate and proactive decision” to accelerate its commercialisation and global presence.
The company said global expansion had always been central to its strategy and it remained headquartered in Australia, where it continued to build and deploy its technology.
“Harrison.ai has grown significantly since our last funding round, and is accelerating our scale globally – this includes our software business, while also expanding our offering in the US market with AI-enabled services,” a spokesperson said.
“Our radiology AI tools are used daily across more than 1,000 health-care sites in Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific, and the United States.
“Our technology enhances the speed and accuracy of diagnosis and care for more than 12 million patients every year.”
The company said it remained focused on its goal of reaching one million people a day and scaling healthcare capacity globally.
