Parliamentary Committee highlights need for alignment in 2027 Election Security Planning

Despite requesting over millions for 2027 general election preparations, Papua New Guinea’s primary security forces the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) and the PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) told the Parliamentary Committee that they have not reconcile their respective budgets, creating serious risks of double-dipping and financial overlap.

Appearing before the Special Parliamentary Committee on the 2027 General Election on September 9, 2026, were Police Commissioner David Manning, PNGDF Acting Commander Rear Admiral Philip Polewara, and Treasury First Assistant Secretary.
