Medtech showcased at combined AusBiotech conference

More than 2500 delegates are expected on the Gold Coast this week for ‘Australia’s Biggest Week in Biotech,’ an event bringing together medical technology, biotechnology and health technology leaders from across Australia and abroad.

Hosted by AusBiotech, the five-day event combines three of the organisation’s flagship events for the first time – AusBiotech Invest, the AusBiotech International Conference and AusMedtech Conference.

Supported by the Queensland Government as Host State Partner, the event coincides with AusBiotech’s 40th anniversary.

AusBiotech CEO Rebekah Cassidy said bringing the organisation’s flagship conferences together reflected the increasingly connected nature of Australia’s life sciences sector.

“Australia’s life sciences sector is built on the strength of its people, its scientific capabilities and the partnerships that turn research and innovation into real-world outcomes for patients in Australia and around the world,” Ms Cassidy said.

“Bringing our flagship conferences together for the first time and partnering across an array of satellite events, we are creating opportunity to strengthen connections across biotechnology, medical technology, health technology, investment and research.

“As we celebrate 40 years of AusBiotech, this week is both an opportunity to recognise how far our sector has come and to focus on what we can achieve together in the decades ahead.”

Ms Cassidy also acknowledged the Queensland Government’s support for the event in 2026 and 2027.

“Australia has extraordinary biotech, medtech, and health tech capabilities, and strengthening our national and international connection is essential to translating that potential into greater global impact.”

This year’s event attracted delegates from 23 countries, including eight represented for the first time – with more than 8600 meetings requested in advance through the AusPartnering platform.

Organisers say it is the largest edition of the event to date, with record numbers of conference delegates and satellite event attendees.

The week also includes 15 official satellite events, six dinners, six workshops and roundtables and four precinct and infrastructure site tours.

Three conferences brought together

As part of the program, the AusMedtech Conference focuses on developments in medical technology and healthcare – with innovators, industry representatives and investors invited to explore opportunities to develop and commercialise new technologies.

Meanwhile, AusBiotech Invest on Tuesday brought investors and six life sciences company leaders together to examine financing challenges facing Australian companies.

The program covered market conditions, access to cross-border capital, investment syndication and the milestones influencing investment decisions.

The wider AusBiotech International Conference is Australia’s largest life sciences conference and brings together industry leaders, researchers, investors and government representatives.

Under the theme Global Impact Together, the integrated program explores how scientific discovery, collaboration and investment can support improved patient outcomes and strengthen Australia’s international competitiveness.

The combined conference program features more than 250 speakers across approximately 60 sessions – covering scientific breakthroughs, emerging technologies, investment, commercialisation and partnerships across the life sciences sector.

AusBiotech represents more than 3500 members and works across policy, industry development, commercialisation and international partnerships.
