Macquarie University’s Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) will host a seminar on Wednesday (July 15) examining how climate-related disasters are reshaping healthcare demand, service delivery and system sustainability.
How Climate Disasters Ripple Through Health Systems will be held at Macquarie University in Sydney on Wednesday from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
The event is hosted by AIHI founding director Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite, with a keynote from Climate Councillor and former Fire and Rescue NSW commissioner Greg Mullins AO.
Panel speakers include Professor Paul Beggs, director of the Lancet Countdown Oceania Regional Centre; Professor Henry Cutler, director of the Centre for the Health Economy at Macquarie University; Wyong Hospital deputy director of emergency Dr Matt Knox; AIHI Professor of Health System Sustainability Professor Yvonne Zurynski; and AIHI health informatics research fellow Dr Hania Rahimi-Ardabili.
The seminar will explore how more frequent and severe climate-related disasters are placing pressure on healthcare delivery and operations, workforce capacity, health system planning and community resilience.
It will also showcase related research from the AIHI Observatory on the Future of Healthcare, including work focused on climate change and health system sustainability.
