Health NZ’s New Dunedin Hospital project will mark a “significant step” in its development this week with the installation of specialised medical imaging equipment at the Outpatient Building, which is on track to open later this year.
In what Health NZ called a “highly coordinated operation,” an MRI scanner and CT scanner will be carefully craned into the building through a temporary opening in the building’s facade in the early hours of July 6.
Outpatient Building project director Andrew Holmes said the arrival of major diagnostic equipment signaled “a key shift from construction to the fit-out of clinical spaces.”
“Installing the MRI and CT scanners is a significant step forward for the project and a clear sign that we are moving from building the facility to preparing it for patient care,” Mr Holmes said.
“These are complex, high-value pieces of equipment that require months of planning – from procurement through to installation logistics. Seeing them arrive on site will be the result of a huge amount of coordination across teams.
“At the same time, we’ve begun installing fixtures, furniture and equipment throughout the building, from clinical spaces to staff work areas – which really brings the building to life and shows how close we are getting to opening.”
Fixtures, furnishings and equipment including operating tables, waiting room seating, staff workspace desks and storage, began being installed in the building last month.
The Outpatient Building is set to open later this year, with the Inpatient Building scheduled for completion in 2031.
