Footscray Hospital adds hybrid imaging technology

Victoria’s new Footscray Hospital has installed an advanced hybrid imaging system that combines CT and angiography technology, allowing clinicians to perform diagnostic imaging and image-guided interventions without moving patients between departments.

The Canon Alphenix Insight Angio-CT system combines a CT scanner with an angiography suite. The technology is expected to support faster decision-making during complex procedures and emergencies by providing detailed imaging in real time.

The hybrid approach is expected to reduce procedure times for some patients and minimise the need for multiple imaging appointments.

Canon Medical says the platform incorporates advanced image processing and AI-assisted workflow technologies designed to improve image quality and support complex image-guided procedures.

The imaging suite has been installed as part of the new $1.5 billion Footscray Hospital development, which is due to become one of Victoria’s largest health facilities.

The Victorian Government described the installation as a world-first deployment of the Alphenix Insight Angio-CT system, although details of the specific configuration have not been disclosed.
