Communication gaps slow El Niño relief

The Minister for Health, HIV, and National Disaster Services, Dr. Billy Joseph, says poor communication between the National Disaster Centre and provincial offices is slowing drought relief, with Starlink now being installed to keep information flowing.

The PNG National Weather Service has warned this El Niño is one of the strongest on record, expected to peak between October 2026 and January 2027, with NCD and Gulf already under critical drought status.
