PNG on Tour
When it was still the Invitational Hong Kong Sevens PNG was always there every March. One year they even carried a four metre crocodile -stuffed-around the oval. PNG fans all wore a fluorescent yellow shirt and took up a whole section of the stand which intrigued TV audiences around the world. Part of the kit for fans and an organising group of senior businessmen, called the A Team, was a cap with a rubber crocodile attached which when squeezed by the PNG section sent an unmistakable squeak around the ground so people knew PNG was in the house. Unfortunately, for one senior real estate mogul the crocodile got him into hot water and it took a long time to placate the stiff shirted Hong Kong Police who wanted to throw him in a cell. As an American lady climbed the stand heading back to her seat she asked our man if she could squeeze his lizard. Good readers you will have to imagine the rest of the story yourself and realise why the police intervened. Suffice it to say the lizard did not squeak. But she did!
