Transport for NSW has completed a digital upgrade of its Fitness to Drive medical assessment program in a project delivered with HealthLink.
As part of the final phase of upgrades released in May 2026, the Transport for NSW Alcohol Interlock Program recommendation form for patients who require a medical assessment to exit their Alcohol Interlock Program is now online and available to practitioners within their practice management system.
The project allows practitioners to complete and submit Alcohol Interlock Program recommendation forms directly from their practice management systems, removing the need for paper forms and separate visits to Service NSW centres.
The online forms are integrated with a range of clinical software platforms including Best Practice, MedicalDirector Clinical, MedicalDirector Helix, Genie, Medtech Artia, Zedmed, Communicare and Shexie Platinum through HealthLink’s SmartForm technology. Practitioners can submit assessments securely and in real time from within their existing workflows.
The upgrade also includes changes to review frequencies for some medical conditions, updated guidance for clinicians, alignment with national fitness-to-drive standards and the removal of duplicate questions across assessment forms.
Transport for NSW Executive Director Road Safety Regulation Duncan Lucas said the enhancements were designed to make the assessment process faster and more convenient for clinicians and patients while reducing administrative burden.

“The recent upgrades enable smoother workflows for medical professionals through seamless integration with their practice management system, saving time and reducing administrative burden.
“The upgrades also remove the need for patients to make a separate trip to a Service NSW centre to submit their paper forms, saving them both time and money. Built on a modern digital platform, the new forms simplify and modernise the submission process for medical practitioners and patients alike,” Mr Frick said.
