Freedom of the Press
The sanctity of the Fourth Estate has, with a few notable exceptions, has been protected by Papua New Guinea. Long may it continue. As we marked World International Press  Freedom Day ,  Reporters Without Borders (RSF) noted 2025 marked the most dangerous year for global press freedom in its recorded history, driven by a sharp rise in political attacks on independent media. At the same time, tech billionaires tightened their grip on what news and information even reaches the public via their black-box, profit-driven algorithms. Reporters Sans Frontiéres warn “today’s news media are caught between preserving their editorial independence and ensuring their economic survival.” The challenge here is just as great, PNG!

If You Can’t Beat Them

They say if you can’t beat them  join them . So great news that Digicel has been appointed as a reseller of Starlink services. This is what truly progressive companies do – go with the strength. With over 10,000 LEO satellites Telstra has seen where the strength is. It can only benefit the consumer with faster speeds. Let’s see what the rest do? Join the step forward or continue complaining that someone moved into their space and rely on government influence and contacts to queer the pitch? Onward and upward!
