The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) has updated its chronic conditions dashboard with new data on dementia, hay fever, migraine and neurological conditions.
The online dashboard brings together Australian population health statistics, providing interactive data visualisations and key insights into the prevalence and incidence of chronic diseases.
It covers a range of conditions including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, musculoskeletal and respiratory conditions, as well as dementia, neurological conditions and multimorbidity.
Users can examine trends over time using condition counts, crude rates and age-standardised rates, with data broken down by age, sex, remoteness and socioeconomic areas.
The dashboard also provides links to more detailed AIHW reports.
According to the AIHW, approximately 16.8 million Australians, or 61 per cent of the population, live with at least one of 72 selected long-term conditions, while around 38 per cent live with two or more.
The figures are based on a subset of conditions from the Australian Burden of Disease Study that could be identified in the 2022 National Health Survey.
The AIHW said the dashboard was intended to support long-term health planning and policy development by bringing together statistics on chronic disease across different population groups.
Further updates are planned to expand the range of conditions, measures, health impacts and population groups covered.
