The Australian Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and digital consultancy Liquid Interactive have won a 2026 Good Design Award for the redesign of the My Aged Care website, which has introduced personalised navigation, provider comparison tools and improved access to aged care information.
The redesigned website was launched on 1 November 2025, coinciding with the introduction of the new Aged Care Act, following an 18-month development process involving hundreds of older Australians and their families.
According to the Good Design Awards project entry, the website recorded 1.6 million users and 3.4 million sessions in the five months following its launch, increases of 18.5 per cent and 23.4 per cent respectively.
The redesign includes a personalised homepage feature called Wayfinder, which directs users to information and services relevant to their circumstances.
A My Guide feature allows users to create checklists, save information and shortlist aged care providers, while fee estimators and provider comparison tools are designed to help people understand their options.
The project also involved integrating the redesigned website with existing departmental IT and data systems.
Department of Health, Disability and Ageing assistant secretary for navigation and access Aimee Chambers said the redesign was intended to make information easier to find and understand.
“Through close collaboration between Liquid and the Department, we transformed complex reform requirements into a simpler, more accessible digital experience that supports informed decision-making and greater choice and control,” Ms Chambers said.
“Our success came from combining policy expertise, user-centred design and customer insights to create practical solutions that meet the needs of older people in a changing aged care environment.”
Liquid Interactive CEO Fiona Armstrong said the project had focused on simplifying the process of finding aged care services and understanding associated costs.
“Aged care can be overwhelming, and no-one’s journey is the same,” Ms Armstrong said.
“We co-designed new easier approaches to wayfind in a complex ecosystem; new contextualisation tools that show what could help in each individual’s situation; clear process checklists and decision points; and easy comparison tools that make it simpler to understand costs and choose a provider.”
The redesign received a Good Design Award in the Digital Design category, with judges recognising its use of personalised guidance and accessible information to help older Australians navigate changes to the aged care system.
It is the second Good Design Award for the My Aged Care platform, following an earlier award in 2020.
