Artificial intelligence, digital health reform and data-driven decision-making are reshaping healthcare – for leaders, the challenge is no longer simply adopting new technology, according to the Health Information Management Association of Australia.
HIMAA says the challenge is ensuring the information flowing through that technology can be trusted.
Electronic medical records, analytics platforms, interoperability initiatives and AI-enabled solutions all depend on accurate, accessible, secure and well-governed health information. Without that foundation, transformation programs carry greater clinical, operational, financial and reputational risk, HIMAA says – adding that this makes health information management a strategic leadership priority.
The HIMAA National Conference 2026 (HIMAA26), held at Hilton Sydney from 26 – 28 October 2026, will explore how health information capability can help organisations deliver safer, more effective and better-connected care.
Health information managers are increasingly providing leadership across data governance, information quality, privacy, compliance, clinical coding, documentation integrity and workforce development.
Their expertise connects clinical practice with digital systems, organisational accountability and the meaningful use of data.
At HIMAA26, delegates will hear from leaders across healthcare, government, academia and industry about the issues influencing the sector’s future, including:
- responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies
- information governance as an enabler of digital transformation
- data quality, privacy and regulatory compliance
- clinical coding and documentation integrity
- workforce sustainability and capability development
- the evolving contribution of health information professionals.
For healthcare executives and digital health leaders, the conference offers an opportunity to understand the people, governance and information foundations required to translate technology investment into genuine organisational and patient benefit.
For health information professionals, it is a forum to strengthen their leadership contribution, exchange practical insights and help define the profession’s future direction.
Registrations close on 1 October 2026.
