Tasmania’s Department of Health has begun the next phase of its digital transformation program, including preparatory work for the implementation of a statewide electronic medical record (EMR).
A Department of Health spokesperson told Pulse+IT that the broader digital transformation had already delivered initiatives including free Wi-Fi in hospitals and e-referrals.
“The Department continues to progress the digital transformation of our health system,” the spokesperson said.
“Delivery of the next phase of the digital transformation strategy has now begun, which includes preparatory work for the implementation of the Electronic Medical Record.”
The spokesperson said further announcements on key operational milestones were expected in the coming weeks.
These will include significant system updates designed to ensure existing systems are modern, consistent and fully operational ahead of the scheduled EMR go-live.
The Department also plans to introduce other new systems that will operate alongside the EMR.
Pulse+IT previously reported that the EMR implementation forms part of Tasmania’s broader Bluegum Health Transformation program.
