Global DNA sequencing and array-based technology company Illumina has announced the appointment of Susan Martin as General Manager for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).
The company said Ms Martin’s appointment strengthens its regional leadership as it seeks to advance its strategy to integrate genomics more broadly into clinical care.
Most recently, Ms Martin served as Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand at Johnson & Johnson MedTech, where she led a portfolio spanning Orthopaedics, General Surgery, and Cardiovascular businesses.
Based in Melbourne, Ms Martin will lead Illumina’s ANZ operations, driving commercial growth, strategic partnerships, market expansion and customer success across research, clinical and public health sectors.
She will play a key role in strengthening Illumina’s presence in one of the Asia-Pacific region’s most advanced genomics markets.

Ms Martin brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across the MedTech and biologics industries, with a track record of driving sustainable growth, leading high-performing teams and advancing healthcare innovation.

Australia and New Zealand represent a key growth market for Illumina in the Asia-Pacific region – driven by increasing investment in genomic medicine, cancer genomics, reproductive health, population health programs and infectious disease surveillance.
Recent developments, including Illumina’s support for a new two-year genomics pilot program by Health NZ, led by Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL), highlighted the region’s commitment to integrating genomics into routine clinical care.
Illumina said it continues to invest in local capabilities, scientific collaboration and strategic partnerships to advance precision health across the region.
