Health NZ has signalled plans to establish a pre-qualified list of Digital Infrastructure System Integrator (DISI) suppliers to support major hospital redevelopment projects, beginning with the new Whangārei and Nelson hospitals.
A Notice of Future Procurement Opportunities listing published on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) gives the market advance warning that an Invitation to Qualify (ITQ) is expected to be released “in the coming weeks.”
It notes that no contracts were being awarded at this stage and that the procurement remained subject to approval.
The proposed supplier list would initially support the Pihi Kaha (Whangārei Hospital Redevelopment) and Whakatupuranga (Nelson Hospital Redevelopment) projects, with Health NZ indicating it may also be used for future redevelopments, including Tauranga, Hawke’s Bay and Palmerston North.
According to the notice, the successful organisations would provide Digital Infrastructure System Integrator services – bringing together digital and technology infrastructure across new hospital developments, including ICT networks, building systems, clinical technologies and the platforms that connect them so facilities are operational from day one.
Health NZ said it would assess suppliers on capability and experience rather than price, seeking organisations with proven experience delivering complex digital and ICT infrastructure integration on major construction projects, sufficient capacity to support concurrent hospital builds, strong security and privacy capabilities and experience working within a main contractor-led delivery model.
The agency said the qualification process would not establish a procurement panel or preferred supplier arrangement, nor guarantee any future work.
Instead, suppliers admitted to the list would become eligible to compete for project-specific opportunities as hospital redevelopments progress.
The main contractors appointed to each redevelopment would then procure their preferred DISI from the qualified list, with those procurements expected to begin in early 2027.
Health NZ said the approach was consistent with Australian hospital delivery practice and welcomed consortium bids, teaming arrangements and meaningful local participation.
It also noted that digital infrastructure would be central to delivering care in the country’s next generation of public hospitals.
The deadline for supplier questions is Monday, 27 July 2026 at 12pm.
